February 27, 2012

Addison woke up in good humor today and got herself dressed after she asked me to get her dress down from the closet.  Sometimes her fierce independence is seriously handy!  When she had herself all together she came out to eat breakfast (her first breakfast, she eats again when she gets to school), and then asked how much time we had until we needed to leave.  When I informed her she said, "I'm all dressed, I've brushed my teeth and done my potty.  Can I use these 5 minutes to do my hair?"  Though I'm never really sure what her hair's going to look like at the end of things like this, I felt that it would be terribly cruel to deny her this joy.  So, I let her go to it.  I finished up my things, got Ken and Teresa out the door and then called to Addison that it was about time to go.  "I just need a couple of more minutes, my hair is NOT cooperating!!"  I went to check it out.

Addison was trying to curl her hair with her play curling iron.  "It just isn't curling!"  I explained that she needed heat in order for the curling iron to work.  "Oh....can I use your curling iron?"  Uh, not yet.  I hadn't really thought about what an appropriate age is for unsupervised curling iron use, but I feel relatively content that it's not 4 years old.  She put a couple of clips in, and decicded that it was good enough.

Both girls had fantastic days at school.  I was thrilled to see that Addison had a note on her daily sheet that she'd had a fantastic day.  This was very resassuring since she'd had a distinctly "not good day" last Thursday at school.  She stayed chipper the whole way home from school.  I commented to her that I'd noticed she was really trying hard not to suck on her fingers when she was tired.  She paused, looked at me in the mirror, and said, "Well, I think it's just time to stop sucking them."  I don't really think that it will stick, but maybe we're heading in the right direction.

Teresa was very excited  when we got home.  It was a gorgeous evening and Ken had the grill going and our outdoor fire going, and it was lovely!  Ken and Terasa were practicing with the T-ball bat and ball.

I commented that we really should probably get them back into some sports (other than gymnastics).  The both cried out "Swimming!"  Well, at least they both have an interest.

Addison had to take a break to go inside and dress up her pony so that she might be all ready for her own tea party.

When the burgers were done, Teresa decided to sing us all the songs that she'd learned in music class today.  Though we were eating dinner, Addison could not help herself....she just had to get up and dance.  So funny.

We ended the evening with ice cream sitting around the fireplace.  Definitely a nice night.

Tonight when the girls were getting ready for bed Addison went into their bin of winter clothes and picked out some mittens.  "I'm wearing one to bed."  She asked me to help put it on her hand, which I did.  She then adjusted her rabbit fur (a constant bedtime companion), and laughed.  "That won't work, that's not my sucking fingers!"  So, we switched hands and she went to be stroking her rabbit fur.

I'm so proud, I went to check on her just now, and she is actually sleeping with no fingers in her mouth!  This is the first time I've seen her sleep without fingers her in mouth!  It will be so interesting to see if this sticks.

  1. She doesn't need a heated iron. She's beautiful the way she is. Can't wait until she's sixteen!
